Group Home Palermo – a Home, a Future, a Seconde Chance

A HOME WHERE CHILDREN CAN FINALLY FELL SAFE

In Palermo, Sicily, many children grow up in instability, uncertainty, and emotional hardship. We are building something different. A Group Home for 10–15 children aged 6 to 13, where safety is not temporary — but permanent. Where care is not rotating — but consistent. Where children are not managed — but truly known, seen, and loved. This is not an institution. It is a home.


WHY THIS MATTERS

Too many children grow up with:

  • broken trust
  • unstable environments
  • emotional neglect
  • constant changes in caregivers
  • lack of structure and belonging

What they need is not just support.

They need:

A HOME BUILT ON LIVED CHRISTIAN VALUES

This project is deeply rooted in Christian faith and values, lived out in everyday life.

Not as a system. Not as a program.

Christian faith shapes the way we care, the way we lead, and the way we build relationships.

We also want to create something often forgotten:

dignity for caregivers.

Many trained professionals in Sicily face:

  • unstable work conditions
  • lack of long-term perspective
  • low recognition despite high responsibility

We aim to build:

  • fair and stable jobs
  • long-term employment
  • a strong and supported team

👉 Because children can only be stable if the adults around them are stable.

THE REALITY BEHIND STARTING A CHILDREN’S HOME

Before a single child can enter, everything must already exist:

  • a fully equipped home
  • trained staff
  • legal approvals
  • safety systems
  • furniture and infrastructure

And yet:
👉 there is no public funding during this phase.

This means most projects start under heavy financial pressure.

OUR DECISION: WE REFUSE TO START IN DEBT

We believe children should not be raised in environments born from financial stress.

That’s why we choose:
👉 no loans
👉 no debt system
👉 no financial pressure on the future home

Instead, we rely on solidarity-based pre-funding.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MAKES POSSIBLE

The initial funding (around €100,000) allows us to build everything from the ground up:

🏠 Creating the home

  • securing a suitable property
  • renovation and adaptation
  • furniture and children’s rooms
  • safety and living infrastructure

👩‍👧 Launching care

  • hiring qualified staff
  • first months of salaries
  • daily care and protection of children
  • basic needs and operations

👉 Especially critical: the early phase before the home is fully operational.
